FAQ

How much will it cost?

At GearMont Air, we utilize a flat rate pricing model that is based off of national data on standardized pricing. Because of this, you’ll know the cost for your repairs, service or replacement up front. We guarantee that we’ll do what it takes to get the job done right. Once we assess your individual situation, we can better assess the price associated with your specific needs.

How soon can you come out?

We understand the frustration associated with not having your heating and air conditioning running properly. We’ll do everything we can to ensure you’re back up and running as quickly as possible. The first step is contacting us to secure an appointment.

How long do repairs or new system installs take?

Most simple repairs can be done within a few hours. The majority of our new installations can be done within 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of your home and the system. Should your equipment go out in the heat of the summer or cold of the winter we will move you up to the front of the line. This means we can generally get your new system installed the next day.

What are your payment methods? Do you offer financing?

We accept checks and all major credit cards. We also have financing options available with low monthly payments(W.A.C.).

Why do I hear the fan running on my AC but the air isn’t cold?

You may have the fan turned to "on" at the Thermostat control, if you check and its set to "on", switch it over to "auto" and that should take care of the issue. If the fan continues to run when the system isn’t calling for cooling or heating, give us a call and we will send a technician out to assess the cause and provide solutions to the issue.

How long should my unit last?

An AC unit typically lasts between 10-15 years. Scheduled maintenance can help prolong your system’s life and help avoid unexpected and costly repairs.

Can I just replace the outdoor unit on an older system to save money?

Depending on your areas building department you might be able to just replace the outdoor unit, our experience has shown us that it is best to replace both the indoor and outdoor units because the indoor unit usually fails shortly after the outdoor unit and when you just replace one piece you limit your options in regards to efficiency.

How do I select the right sized equipment?

The size of your equipment is determined by the “load” of your house which is determined with a load calculation. When replacing their system, many people want to simply use the same size as their previous system. However, this is not the most efficient way to select a new unit. You can start planning your new system by completing our self-service tool or contacting us. One of our highly skilled technicians will confirm the specifications to ensure the right system is installed for your unique situation.

How often should I have my system serviced?

From ACCA: The HVAC system is the single largest user of energy in your home, making it one of your biggest household expenditures. If it is not maintained in proper working order you will be sacrificing your indoor comfort while seeing increased utility cost, and will likely incur higher repair costs and premature equipment replacement costs. That is why it is so important for you to utilize a quality contractor to regularly inspect and service your HVAC system.

How often should I change my air filter?

This depends in the MERV rating (efficiency of the filter). A replaceable filter with a rating less than 8 should be replaced once per month. A rating of 8-10 every sixty days and a rating of 11-16 every six to twelve months depending on if you have pets.

Why should I switch to a high efficiency air filter?

High efficiency air filters allow better air flow, last longer, keep your equipment cleaner and remove air borne contaminants that can cause health issues.

What should I do if someone in the home has allergies or asthma?

We offer a wide variety of air filtration and purification products that can help reduce particulates, allergens, and living organisms in the air. We’ve worked with countless customers to address specific allergy and air quality needs. Depending on your specific needs, we can customize a solution that provides your desired results.

How can I reduce my energy costs?

With the heating and air conditioning system being the largest consumer of energy in your home, your heating and cooling system are a great place to start. The components of a very efficient system are efficient equipment and duct work.

Does it save money to program my thermostat for different temperatures during the day?

It is generally recommended to only set your thermostat a few degrees off of your desired temperature during the day if no one is home for longer than 3-4 hours. This ensures that your system doesn’t need to work excessively to get back to your desired temperature when you are home.

Why does my home have a musty smell when the AC is running?

This usually means that your indoor coil is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Why do I have water dripping from the vents in my home?

This usually means that your system is over-sized for your home, so the system is able to get the temperature of your home cool, but it is not running long enough to remove the moisture. Humidity takes longer to remove than Temperature does to drop. Depending on the age of your system, you may want to consider having your system calibrations assessed or a dehumidifier installed.

What can I do to make it more comfortable in the winter and summer when the temperatures are most extreme?

You can decrease the load on your equipment by adding insulation, upgrading windows, installing thicker window treatments and attic ventilation.

What sorts of tax credits are available for updating my system?

There are several incentives offered through the Department of Energy and your local power and gas company. We recommend looking at the websites for each of these groups to learn more.

Should I set my home’s thermostat for a specific temperature?

Energy Star recommends setting your thermostat at 68° in the winter and 78° in the summer if your home is well insulated, these temperatures tend to be comfortable, but everyone’s preferences are different.

What type of system do you recommend?

We use a protocol by ACCA called Manual S to determine which equipment works best for the individual situation. We find that Lennox offers the best range of products to address the variety of situations that may come up. If you’ve never had a load calculation completed for your home or have altered your home significantly, a load calculation is the only way to guarantee that you purchase a properly sized unit for your home. At GearMont Air our technicians are highly trained in prescribing the right system for your home and your needs.

How to Pick Out Your New Air Conditioning & Heating System

HOW TO PICK OUT YOUR NEW AC SYSTEM

How to determine what you have now?

Determine what you have

  • Take pictures of your air handler model and serial number and unit. This is your inside unit
  • Take pictures of your condenser model and serial number and unit. This is your outside unit
  • Take a picture of your electrical panel and the two circuit breakers that serve the outside and inside unit.
  • Share this with us and we can tell you the size and type of your existing air-conditioning system

How to Pick the Right Brand and Model for You?

  • With all manufacturers, systems are primarily broken into five groups. As you progress from the most basic model to the system with the most features, what you gain is better comfort, better air cleaning, quieter, more safety features and better energy efficiency. Let’s get one thing straight right here and now…All air-conditioning systems that are properly installed and maintained will last an average of 10-12 years with minimal issues. Here are the five groups of models.
  • Standard efficiency – these are the most basic air-conditioning systems. They are the least efficient and very basic. They operate at one speed. They are also the least expensive
  • Efficiency plus – these are the same as standard efficiency models in features, but are a little more energy efficient. Slightly more expensive than the basic models, but a good choice if you are on a budget.
  • Enhanced comfort – just as the name implies, they add more comfort. They do this by reducing humidity in your home better than the previous model. They are single speed for the outside unit and variable speed on the inside. If they are coupled with the proper thermostat you can set both temperature and humidity along with better air cleaning by extending blower time on a slow speed. These systems are typically priced in the middle of the model line-up.
  • Premium Comfort – By adding a two speed outside unit to the Enhanced Comfort system previously described, you add a lower overall speed to add energy efficiency, better air cleaning, better humidity control, quietness and added safety features that protect your unit from failures. If your budget allows, these systems are a great choice for comfort.
  • Ultimate Comfort and Energy Efficient – Do you want the absolute best comfort, air cleaning, humidity control, quietness, safety features and energy efficiency? If so, this is what you want. These systems are a breed all amongst themselves. Inverter drive, variable speed systems that will run from 0-100% and almost anywhere in-between will give your home comfort like you’ve never had before. The ultimate control of your comfort without you having to think about touching your thermostat.
